Development Alternatives (DA) participated as a resource agency in a national level workshop on NREGS upon invitation by the V V Giri National Labour Institute, Noida

l A three-day review visit was undertaken by the DA presidents and vice-presidents with staff during the ‘DA Bundelkhand: Interventions and Interaction’ held in Bundelkhand

l A series of capacity building trainings have been initiated in Orchha and Pahuj for the women SHG members on issues of leadership, institution building, book keeping and collective strength

l A review meeting of NABARD-SHG networking project was held at Jhansi between DA, its CSO partners and NABARD officials for sharing experiences, challenges and charting the way forward

TARA Livelihood Academy (TLA)
l Various training activities were conducted in Bundelkhand during the month of December, 2009. On the job training on Roof Techniques for Masons under the SDC project was conducted on December 3-7, 2009. Training on bio gas repairs, maintenance and operations for women under the SDC project was held on December 12-13, 2009. A training session on Spices Processing, Packaging and Marketing for women under the SDC project was conducted on December 21-23, 2009. Also, a training programme for security guards at Lalitpur (Uttar Pradesh) was conducted on December 15-19, 2009

l A three-day executive focus training programme was conducted on Value Creation through Renewable Energy Models on December 18-20, 2009

l UNEP conducted a Training of Multipliers for Integrated Environmental Assessment (IEA) using an e-learning platform. Development Alternatives represented the South Asia region in the training workshop. The IEA is used to prepare Environment Outlook reports

l Validation of the District Environmental Atlas Report of Dausa district (Rajasthan) was done in a workshop under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate of Dausa district and in the presence of representatives of various district line departments. The workshop was held on November 25, 2009

A brainstorming workshop on ‘Policy Linkages for Sustainable Water and Energy Use in Semi-arid Regions’ was organised by Development Alternatives in collaboration with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) at the Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi on December 19, 2009, where more than 25 participants participated and discussed policy issues related to the topic. A status report structure was prepared for a proposed white paper

l The second of the Lok Awaas Yatra series will be held on January 17-21, 2010. This Yatra will cover the Western Region of India - Saurashtra, Kutch and western Rajasthan - in association with two regional partners - UNNATI and SEWA. The knowledge partner is the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology, Ahmedabad

l The sixth Management Committee meeting of Radio Bundelkhand, held in TARAgram Orchha in December 2009, registered a demand for more and improved programmes on women’s health, especially on maternity and nutrition issues. A gynaecologist and a nutritionist will be called in as experts for discussions as also to answer audience queries
